Nexju’s qpAdm tools reference for Best qpAdm: qpWave tests how many streams of ancestry link a set of populations to the right set. Run it to check that the sources can be told apart before you fit qpAdm.
What qpWave tests
qpWave asks whether a set of left populations can be explained by fewer independent streams of ancestry than there are populations, as seen from the right set. qpAdm is built on the same rank test.
When to run it
- Test the candidate sources together. If they are rank 0 relative to each other, the right set cannot tell them apart.
- Change the right set, or pick other sources, until they separate.
- Then fit qpAdm with the target.
